Reading about Mytholmroyd Gala in the early 1960s (issue 5) brought back many happy memories. Everybody dressed up for the occasion and people who had left the district seemed to return on that particular day.

With reference to Barrie Lord and the Blue Rhythm Boys: Barrie was a local lad, son of a local businessman, and moved to Australia in about 1966 with his wife Sybil and family. I am constantly in touch with Barrie via e-mail. He is still working on cruise-liners doing shows and has made several return visits to the area, the last about six years ago.

As far as Hebden Bridge Ladies Keep Fit team is concerned they, of course, were run by Mary Calvert, who still holds weekly keep-fit classes. I was one of the young ladies who took part!

Ed: Our thanks to Molly, and Peter Robertshaw who provided the photos of the gala. Fans of Barrie will be delighted to know his reminiscences about the music scene in the Valley in the 1950s and `60s will feature in our Spring 2004 issue.
