Prolific

A Todmorden couple described as ``ardent in their attachment to one another’’ had produced no less than 190 descendants by the end of their lives!

Edmund and Sally Holt, of Hullett, Shore, had 11 children (eight daughters and three sons), 103 grandchildren and 76 great-grandchildren.

Mrs Holt , who out-lived her husband, died on June 11 1864 aged 82 years, survived by only five of her children. The family was one of the most prolific in the area, noted the Todmorden and Hebden Bridge Historical Almanack in 1911.
